MADISON, NC (AP) — Rockingham County authorities are investigating the death of a 62-year-old man whose body was found covered in dog bites.
The News & Record of Greensboro reports deputies found the body of Jose Robles at the bottom of a steep embankment on Nov. 24 in Madison, a day after his family reported him missing. The newspaper said the sheriff’s office wouldn’t discuss the case.
Police records show a deputy’s confrontation with dogs is tied to the discovery. The deputy called for backup after coming upon a pack of dogs belonging to Daniel McCollum. Robles’ body was found across from McCollum’s home.
McCollum was fined $900 for not vaccinating his dogs and letting them run free. A phone number for McCollum couldn’t be found Monday.
